Day by day

  1. Day 1

    Nairobi → Maasai Mara

    Drive west via the Rift Valley escarpment and Narok. Afternoon game drive.

  2. Day 2

    Maasai Mara

    A full day in the reserve with a picnic lunch at the Mara River.

  3. Day 3

    Maasai Mara → Lake Naivasha

    Morning drive, then north-east to Naivasha. Afternoon boat trip among the hippo and a walk on Crescent Island, where you can move on foot among zebra, giraffe and waterbuck.

  4. Day 4

    Lake Naivasha → Serengeti

    A long travel day south across the Namanga border and on towards the Serengeti, or by scheduled flight if you prefer to spend the day differently. Evening arrival.

  5. Day 5

    Serengeti

    A full day in the Seronera valley — kopjes, river lines and the resident lion and leopard that hold territory here year-round.

  6. Day 6

    Serengeti

    A second full day, positioned for the herds. Optional balloon flight at first light.

  7. Day 7

    Serengeti → Ngorongoro

    Game drive east across the plains, past Olduvai Gorge if time allows, and up onto the crater rim.

  8. Day 8

    Ngorongoro Crater

    A full day on the crater floor, including a picnic lunch beside the hippo pool.

  9. Day 9

    Ngorongoro → Lake Eyasi

    Down to Eyasi in the afternoon, meeting your local guide and settling into camp on the lakeshore.

  10. Day 10

    Lake Eyasi → Arusha

    Out before dawn with Hadzabe hunters, then a stop with the Datoga, who smelt and forge the arrowheads the Hadzabe use. Afternoon transfer to Arusha.

  11. Day 11

    Arusha → Nairobi or Kilimanjaro Airport

    Transfer to Kilimanjaro International for your flight, or the shuttle north through Namanga to Nairobi.
