7 Days Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Naivasha & Amboseli
Four parks, a Maasai village and a morning on a bicycle
- Budget camping
- Tented camp
- Lodge
Our fullest week in southern Kenya. Two nights on the Mara's grassland, a Maasai village visit that is part of the trip rather than an add-on, rhino and flamingo at Lake Nakuru, a soft day on Lake Naivasha, a morning cycling through Hell's Gate, and two nights with the elephant herds under Kilimanjaro. It runs as a scheduled group departure or as a private trip.
Trip highlights
- Two nights in the Maasai Mara with a full day of game viewing and a picnic lunch at the hippo pool
- A Maasai village morning — manyatta homes, song and dance — included, not an optional extra
- Black and white rhino, and Baboon Cliff, at Lake Nakuru
- An afternoon at leisure on Lake Naivasha, with an optional boat ride among the hippo
- Cycling or walking through Hell's Gate and down into the gorge — no predators, no vehicle
- Two nights in Amboseli with a picnic lunch at the foot of Kilimanjaro

Day 1
Nairobi → Maasai Mara
Hotel pick-up between 08:00 and 08:30, meeting the rest of the group and your driver-guide, then west out of the city. We stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint for the escarpment wall, and again in Narok for an early lunch. You reach camp in the late afternoon, check in, and head straight out on an introductory game drive that runs until sunset.

Day 2
A full day in the Maasai Mara
Out by 07:45 for a full day in the reserve. The Mara is rolling savannah on a good road network, which means close, unhurried viewing rather than chasing radio calls. Picnic lunch near the hippo pool, watching hippo and crocodile, then an afternoon drive back through the plains. Dinner and a bonfire at camp.

Day 3
Maasai Mara → Lake Nakuru
After breakfast we visit a Maasai village — the manyatta houses, the song and dance, and a proper introduction to how people live alongside the reserve. Then north out of Mara country to Nakuru town, arriving in the early evening. Time to relax or take a walk before dinner.

Day 4
Lake Nakuru → Lake Naivasha
Check out by 08:00 and into Lake Nakuru National Park for a morning game drive — the sanctuary fence holds both rhino species, and Baboon Cliff gives you the view back down over the lake. We leave the park around 11:00 and drive to Naivasha for a hot lunch. The afternoon and evening are yours, with an optional boat ride on the lake.

Day 5
Hell's Gate → Amboseli
Straight after breakfast to Hell's Gate, where you can cycle or walk — one of very few Kenyan parks with no predators to speak of, so you move among zebra, giraffe and eland on your own feet. Down into the Ol Njorowa gorge with a local guide, back up to the gate, then the long drive south to Amboseli with lunch en route. Arrival before sunset.

Across the plains for close encounters with the big herds, up to the observation viewpoint for the view over the swamps and the dry lake bed, and picnic lunch at the base of Kilimanjaro. The afternoon is spent at the swamps, where the elephants feed and bathe.
