5 Days Mount Kenya — Sirimon up, Chogoria down
The finest traverse on the mountain, and the one we recommend first
- Trekking
Point Lenana at 4,985 m is the highest point on Mount Kenya you can reach without technical climbing. Going up Sirimon and down Chogoria gives you the gentlest acclimatisation profile and the most spectacular descent in East Africa — past the Gorges Valley and Lake Michaelson.
Trip highlights
- Point Lenana at sunrise, with Batian and Nelion lit up above you
- Two different sides of the mountain — dry moorland on Sirimon, deep valleys on Chogoria
- The Gorges Valley and Lake Michaelson on the descent
- Giant lobelia and groundsel in the afro-alpine zone
- A profile designed for acclimatisation rather than speed
