Day by day

  1. Day 1

    Nairobi → Samburu

    North via Nanyuki and the equator, arriving for lunch, with an afternoon game drive on the Ewaso Nyiro.

    Samburu

    Full day of game drives for the arid-country specials, leopard along the river, and elephant coming down to drink.

  3. Day 3

    Samburu → Lake Nakuru

    Morning drive, then south past Mount Kenya and west into the Rift Valley. Afternoon game drive at Lake Nakuru.

    Lake Nakuru → Maasai Mara

    A short morning circuit for rhino, then the cross-country drive to the Mara through Bomet. Evening game drive.

    Maasai Mara

    A full day in the reserve, following whatever the guides are finding — cats on the plains, hippo pods on the river, and in season the migration herds massing on the banks.

    Maasai Mara

    A second full day, with the option of a sunrise balloon flight and champagne bush breakfast, or a morning at a Maasai homestead followed by an afternoon in the Mara Triangle.

    Maasai Mara → Nairobi

    Sunrise game drive, breakfast, and the road home via Narok. Afternoon arrival in Nairobi.
